 WHat is Bushcraft?

Picture
To put it simply, 'bushcraft' is all the skill and knowledge you need to live happily in the bush - in wild nature.

Bushcraft means different things to different people but to us it means as little equipment as possible.

We want, ultimately, to be free of dependency on fossil fuels and complicated, fallible technology.
For us, the highest goal of bushcraft is to be able to rely only on what we can find in the bush and we want to help you achieve the same!

In essence, bushcraft offers true freedom, real safety and an intimate connection with wild nature.

Wow! Cool. So you mean lighting fires without matches, and bushtucker?

Well, yes. The skills of making fire and finding food are definitely vital in the bush, and at Bluegum we love to teach and practice those skills.

But the way we see it, survival skills are only part of what it takes to live in the bush.

Before you can make fire, you need to know which plants and trees are good for making fire. And you need to know where on the landscape to find them. You need to know the bush so well, it feels like home.

This is the heart of bushcraft -  not man vs wild, but being truly at home in the wild.
