Giving Thanks
We give thanks to the parents and mentors of all indigenous cultures. Guided by the desire to help their children develop into a full, balanced and healthy maturity, they discovered over thousands of years the social technologies to bring this about.
We give thanks to Grandfather Stalking Wolf, and to Tom Brown Jr. Their teachings and their commitment to the future has transformed the lives of many, including ours.
We give thanks to Jon Young, and Ingwe, and Gilbert Walking Bull, and all the other wise and open-hearted beings who brought the Wilderness Awareness School into existence and enriched the lives of so many, including ours.
We give thanks to all our mentors, including our parents. For your generosity, your patience, your inspiration.
We give thanks to the Aboriginal ancestors of this land. The ones who loved and laughed, sang and dreamed here on this land - long, long before us. We give thanks to their descendants who still hold the knowledge of the old ways and work tirelessly to preserve it. As do many members of the Wreck Bay community here in Jervis Bay.
We give thanks to the land itself, and all the beings who live on, and in, and through this land.
And we give thanks to all the parents who ever have been, and will be, and are. All of us, who work and yearn and dream and love; and pray that our children may be all that they can be - may live to know the full potential in being human, here on this miracle of a planet.
Lastly, of course, we give thanks to the children. For all that they are, and have been, and will be. We give thanks for all that you give us, including strength, and purpose, and hope.
