Nature Awareness

Picture
Nature awareness is about seeing through the ‘green wall’ when we look at the natural world. We might also call it eco-literacy.

Developing nature awareness involves awakening the senses and creating brain patterns so that we are open to absorbing all the information the natural world is offering us, but that we aren’t always attuned to seeing.

By heightening our sense of smell, sight, hearing, taste and touch, our sense of self within the environment, we nurture our ability to ask skillful questions. Then we can begin to untangle nature’s extraordinary story and acquire a rich knowledge of all the plants, animals, weather and soils within ecological communities.

Nature awareness allows us to know and appreciate the earth as a complex interconnected web of life of which we are part. It opens the door to the ecological wisdom that is essential not only to all naturalists, and survivalists, but to all humans.

Nature awareness is an
ancient intelligence that was once a necessity for knowing how to meet our basic human needs; food, shelter, water, warmth and a sense of belonging. Today too, it is vital for survival.

Perhaps it's this simple: when we are aware of the natural world, our understanding of it is enhanced. So too is our sense of place; our gratitude and respect for the earth. With nature awareness we can come to know the world and know how to live within it.
